I guess I’ll start where I left off last, the end of XDC Texas. My motor had knock and we only had 18 days before we had to leave for Arizona. It didn’t take us long to get the motor out of the car and into pieces. We determined that the cause for the rod knock was due to the ancient oil pump finally giving up. There was some minor damage on the crank and rods from the bearing failure but other than that the block looked fine. There wasn’t enough time to get them repaired so we robbed the crank and rods out of another motor and started reassembling it. We didn’t have all of the parts until the weekend before we were supposed to leave. In a mad scramble me and my dad got everything together and in the car on Tuesday night. I made one pull up and down the street on Wednesday night and everything thing seemed to be ok. We loaded the corolla on the three car and hit the road for Arizona around 3 am thursday morning.

After moping around the pits for a while and talking to Tim and Justin, I decided to change the rod bearings out. It was still raining so we decided to ask the NASCAR guys if we could use one of their garages to do the work. After asking quite a few people about it we finally found the guy in charge. Much to my surprise he was all about it and gave us a spot inside one of the garages. We got the pan dropped pretty quickly, and it didn’t look good. The number one rod was the only one that felt bad, but there were a lot of shavings in the pan. After much debate and talk we decided to change all of the rod bearings out and go for gold. I didn’t have any extra bearings with me so we started calling all the parts houses in Dallas to no avail. My dad had found a set in Houston but wouldn’t be able to get to Dallas until a lot later. To top things off the track was about to close and we wouldn’t be able to work on it up there. We loaded the car up and headed for my girlfriend’s house to raid her garage.
